Fellow Lions,
It is my pleasure, on behalf of the Swansea Bay Host Committee, to invite you to the Cosmopolitan City and Bay that is Swansea.
To compliment its wonderful beaches and Marina is the stunning Gower Peninsular, which in 1956 became the United Kingdom’s first area to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. At the edge of Gower and Swansea is the jewel in the City’s crown, Mumbles, which in March 2018 was announced by the Times as one of the best places to live in the United Kingdom, full of boutique shops, cafés and restaurants.
In Swansea itself, along with the breath taking Brangwyn Hall, which is hosting the Multiple District Convention, there are many places of interest, such as the culture of the Dylan Thomas Centre, and the maritime history of Wales at the Maritime Museum.
Also nearby, set in the neighbouring Carmarthenshire Countryside, is the beautiful National Botanical Gardens of Wales. The Garden shows a fascinating blend of the modern and historic, and is the venue for the partners outing on the Saturday.
Here you’ll find an inspiring range of themed gardens, the world’s largest single-span glasshouse, the British Bird of Prey Centre, a tropical Butterfly House, play areas and a national nature reserve, all set in a Regency landscape which provides the stage for a packed programme of events and courses throughout the year. If mobility is a problem, then with notification electric transport is available.
You are invited to join us on Host Night to celebrate the history of Lions, as we merge to 8 districts and go forward as stronger teams. We will test your observational and memory skills as you enjoy a hot buffet then entertainment from the youth of Swansea in the form of CATS (Class Act Theatre School) who, if we impress could be the Lions of tomorrow. The evening will then finish with music to dance away the rest of the night whilst meeting friends old and new.
We look forward to seeing you in Swansea.
Yours in Lionism
